Bates, who was an ophthalmologist and who pioneered in the field of visual training in the early 1900s. Even though the Bates method was first devised at the beginning of the 20th century, many people still practice them today.

Eye exercise were used by many native cultures around the world, the type Bates made popular derives from native American Indians.
