Signs, Symptoms & Causes of Blurry Vision

Blurry vision after a blepharoplasty is usually related to swelling of the sclera (whites of the eyes) and eyeball, which distorts the cornea. It is important to make sure that there is no corneal abrasion or infection present.

Blurry vision symptoms often indicates serious ocular disease. If the blurriness improves with blinking, it suggests ocular surface discharge of some variety. Blurred vision should be distinguished from other similar conditions affecting vision. Double vision, for example, is a specific visual symptom that is usually distinguished from blurry vision.

Blurred vision is a type of visual symptom. It can include double vision, and takes place either unilaterally or bilaterally (in one or both eyes). Blurred vision is the loss of sharpness of vision and the inability to see small details. Blind spots (scotomas) are dark “holes” in the visual field in which nothing can be seen.

Blurry Vision & Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a vision condition that causes blurred vision due either to the irregular shape of the cornea, the clear front cover of the eye, or sometimes the curvature of the lens inside the eye. An irregular shaped cornea or lens prevents light from focusing properly on the retina, the light sensitive surface at the back of the eye.

Astigmatism is a fairly common disorder that affects one or both of the eyes. An individual who has astigmatism has at least one eye that is irregularly shaped. Astigmatism: Vision is blurred for both near and far objects. Presbyopia: The eyes gradually lose the ability to change focus from distance to near. Astigmatism impairs the eye’s ability to refract light, which causes blurry vision, headaches and eye strain.

The degree of astigmatism can range from barely noticeable to severely impairing vision. Eye infections and inflammation also cause blurry vision. Injury to the eye should be dealt with immediately.
